The Corgi "Aviation Archive" presents highly detailed, ready-made diecast models of military and civilian aircraft. The vast Aviation Archive range has become the standard by which all other diecast airplane ranges are judged. Each Corgi Vampire T.Mk 11 model is based on a specific aircraft from an important historical or modern era of flight and has been authentically detailed from original documents and archival library material. Famous airplanes and aviators from both military and commercial airline aviation are all honored.

This Corgi Vampire series features panel line detail that is exceptionally fine for a diecast metal model. Turbojet intakes are veined and individually painted with separately applied exhaust nozzle detailing at the rear. Four cannon and shell-casing ejection ports are located beneath the nose. The tail booms and elevators of this model are plastic, a feature designed to correct the model’s center of gravity for proper ground display. The series includes a single-seat fighter-bomber and a two-seat trainer, with larger nose and canopy as well as redesigned twin rudders and larger elevators.

First flown on September 20th, 1943, the de Havilland Vampire was the RAF's first single-engine jet fighter. The Vampire featured a central fuselage pod, a twin-boom tail similar to the P-38’s and short-legged tricycle landing gear. The cockpit sat well forward, giving the pilot an excellent field of view. A single Goblin 1 engine capable of more than 3,000 lbs of thrust was positioned at the rear fuselage. The Vampire was the first aircraft to achieve 500mph and to fly at an altitude of 59,446 feet. It was also the first jet to successfully take off from and land on a moving aircraft carrier.

The Vampire was the first RAF single engine jet fighter to enter service, the prototype first flying on September 20, 1943. The Vampire T11 Trainer first flew in 1950, serving the RAF until 1968. Built in 1952 at Christchurch, Dorset, WZ507 was delivered to the RAF in March 1953, serving with 229 OCU, 8FTS, 5FTS, 3 CAACU and finally CATCS at Shawbury. Retired from RAF service in 1969, WZ507 became the first ex-military jet to be put onto the UK civilian register, after being restored to full flying condition in 1980, and registered G-VTII. Bought by its present owners in 2002, in 2008 it was repainted in the marking of No.219 Sqn which operated Venom NF.2s from Driffield, Yorkshire during 1955-57, with a Vampite T.11 for training/hack duties. WZ507 is believed to be the only British-built, ex-RAF Vampire T11 flying in the world and is based at North Weald airfield in Essex.
